چکیده

Two trials were conducted to determine the e¡ects of dietary enrichmentswith themicroalgaParietochloris incisa, rich in arachidonic acid (ARA), on stress resistance in guppies Poecilia reticulata. The microalgawas added to commercial diets as a neutral lipid (NL) extract and its fractions or as broken cells. Experimental diets were applied for a period of 14 days. In trial 1, commercial diets were supplemented with NL (containing 25mg ARA and 0.11mg b-carotene g 1 feed), its triacylglycerol (TAG) fraction (containing 25mgARAg 1 feed and no b-carotene) and the b-carotene fraction (containing 0.11mgcarotenoidg 1 feed andminute amounts of ARA). Neutral lipid-fed ¢sh demonstrated the highest resistance (Po0.05) to osmotic stress (32-ppt NaCl), followed by ¢sh fed with diets supplemented with TAG and b-carotene alone, which were more resistant than control (Po0.05). In trial 2, ¢sh fed diets supplementedwith higher levels of broken alga (26.1mgARAg 1 feed) were more resistant (Po0.05) to stress as compared with ¢sh fed lower ARA (16.3mggg ) or an unsupplemented control diet.We suggest a dietary supplementationwith broken P. incisa cells to enhance stress resistance in guppies before a stressful event.

Feeding with arachidonic acid-rich triacylglycerols from the microalga Parietochloris incisa improved recovery of guppies from infection with Tetrahymena sp

Two trials were conducted to determine the effect of dietary enrichment with arachidonic acid (ARA)-rich triacylglycerols fraction, obtained from the microalga Parietochloris incisa, on the recovery of guppies, Poecilia reticulata, from infection with Tetrahymena sp. Commercial feed (0.7 mg ARA g feed) was directly enriched with the algal hexane lipid extract. Three (12.5, 25.0, 50.0 mg ARA g f...

Dietary enrichments with the arachidonic acid (ARA)-rich microalga, Parietochloris incisa, on the survival of guppy (Poecilia reticulata) fry were examined. Diets were applied via Artemia enrichment to fish from two commercial farms for 34 and 36 days of experimental period (trials 1 and 2, respectively). In trial 1, Artemia nauplii were enriched with dry biomass of whole algal cells at 0 (cont...

Investigation of LC50, NOEC and LOEC of Glyphosate, Deltamethrin and Pretilachlor in Guppies (Poecilia Reticulata)

Background: The presence of pesticides is very prevalent in surface waters of Iran. These toxic substances may accumulate in the food chain and cause serious ecological and health problems. The aim of this study was to determine the acute toxicity of glyphosate, deltamethrin and pretilachlor as potential dangerous organic pesticides to assess lethal effects of these chemicals agents to the Gu...

Cloning, mutagenesis, and characterization of the microalga Parietochloris incisa acetohydroxyacid synthase, and its possible use as an endogenous selection marker.

Parietochloris incisa is an oleaginous fresh water green microalga that accumulates an unusually high content of the valuable long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) arachidonic acid within triacylglycerols in cytoplasmic lipid bodies. Here, we describe cloning and mutagenesis of the P. incisa acetohydroxyacid synthase (PiAHAS) gene for use as an herbicide resistance selection marker fo...

Laterality enhances numerical skills in the guppy, Poecilia reticulata

It has been hypothesized that cerebral lateralization can significantly enhance cognition and that this was one of the primary selective forces shaping its wide-spread evolution amongst vertebrate taxa. Here, we tested this hypothesis by examining the link between cerebral lateralization and numerical discrimination. Guppies, Poecilia reticulata, were sorted into left, right and non-lateralized...
